Most patients call a chiropractor already braced for the part where they find out what it costs. This page is the short version: Dr. Jack A. Atzmon, DC is in network with the plans most New Jersey patients carry, no referral is needed, and we verify your specific benefits before we treat you and go over what to expect.
We are in-network with Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, Oxford Health Plans, AmeriHealth, Meritain Health, and Medicare Part B. Between them, those plans cover the large majority of insured New Jersey residents.
Cigna is the one commercial plan we are currently out-of-network with. We will still see you, and we will go over what out-of-network means for your plan before anything is scheduled.
Yes. This is the part almost nobody explains. Blue Cross Blue Shield is not one company, it is a federation of independent local plans, and every one of them participates in a program called BlueCard. Because we hold a contract with Horizon, the New Jersey Blue plan, members of any other Blue plan are treated as in-network here and are billed at the rate we negotiated with Horizon.
So Anthem, Regence, Highmark, Premera, Wellmark, CareFirst, Florida Blue, Empire, Independence, Excellus, and the rest all work at this office. So does the Blue Cross Blue Shield Federal Employee Program. If you moved to New Jersey and kept your old plan, or you are on a parent’s policy issued in another state, you do not need to find a new chiropractor.
Nothing, in most cases. That is the practical reason we carry as many contracts as we do. Plans change at renewal, employers switch carriers to control costs, and patients routinely lose providers they liked for reasons that have nothing to do with their care.
Because we are in-network across most of the major New Jersey carriers, a change on your employer’s side usually does not interrupt anything on ours. If you are not sure how a new plan lands, bring the card and we will check it.
Generally no. New Jersey plans typically allow direct access to a chiropractor, meaning you can book without going through your primary care doctor first. Some HMO products still route differently, so if your plan is an HMO we will confirm the requirement when we verify your benefits.
We verify your benefits before your first visit and go over what to expect first. Not an estimate range, not a promise to sort it out later, and not a bill three weeks after the fact.
What you actually pay depends on your plan: whether you have a copay or coinsurance, whether your deductible has been met, and what your plan allows for the specific services you need. Those are knowable in advance, so we look them up in advance. Bring your insurance card and a photo ID, or upload them during online intake, and the answer is ready when you arrive.
You still have options and we will be straight with you about them. Some out-of-network plans reimburse a meaningful portion of the visit, some do not. We check first, go over what to expect, and let you decide. Self-pay rates are transparent and payment plans are available.
We would rather tell you an uncomfortable number up front than surprise you with one later.
Usually, yes, and it is worth understanding why. A custom-fitted lumbar-sacral brace is billed under a specific insurance code, HCPCS L0631, and that code covers more than the device itself. Its definition includes fitting the brace to a specific patient by someone with the expertise to do it. That is why a brace ordered online is not the same product, regardless of what it looks like in the photograph.
We fit braces in this office and bill your insurance directly, which means no separate supplier, no referral run-around, and no guessing at what it will cost. Coverage is confirmed before anything is ordered.
We are open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and Saturday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Evening and Saturday appointments exist so that getting treated does not require taking time off work.
To make a difference, to save lives, restore health, release human potential, break through limitations, offer hope, experience miracles, to help change the world — one spine at a time. This is our purpose, this is our mission, this is our vision.
