Low back pain
Up to 80% of adults experience significant low back pain in their lifetime. Most cases are mechanical and respond well to conservative care.
Symptoms
- Localized stiffness, often worse in the morning or after sitting
- Aching or sharp pain with bending, lifting, or twisting
- Pain that radiates into the glutes or down the leg (see also: sciatica)
- Muscle guarding or spasm in the lumbar paraspinals
Common causes
Most low back pain is mechanical — meaning the structures of the spine, not disease, are the source. Common drivers include facet joint dysfunction, disc-related strain, sacroiliac joint involvement, and muscular imbalance from prolonged sitting.
How we diagnose it
A first visit includes a focused history, orthopedic and neurological testing, range-of-motion measurement, and palpation. Imaging is ordered only when red flags are present or conservative care has plateaued.
How we treat it
Treatment is layered: hands-on adjustment for joint mobility, soft-tissue work for muscular drivers, and a home program for what we can't do for you in the office. Plans are reviewed every six visits.
